Feeding wolves in Minecraft: Important facts
Here are several things you need to know about giving food to a wolf in Minecraft:
- If a player has a Bone or other foot item in their hands, any wolf within 8 blocks will turn its attention, tilt its head, and “beg” to be fed for a few seconds. Contrary to popular belief, this happens even when the wolf has full health
- Wild wolves have 8 health points (4 ♥) while tamed ones have 20 (10 ♥)
- Tamed wolves whine when they are below 50% of their maximum health points, i.e., 10 (5 ♥). This isn’t true for wild or angry wolves
- You can only feed a wolf Bones until it’s tamed
- The way wolves’ tail acts is proportional to their health points. If you’re into mathematics, you can measure the precise health of any wolf by determining the angle between the tail and its hind legs. The angle is equal to the percentage of its health points (0-100%)
- Due to the relation between tails and health, tails of wild wolves will always remain noticeably lower than those of tamed ones
- You can use food to accelerate the growth of wolf pups
- If you attack a wolf then give it food, hearts will appear above its head (Minecraft’s “love mode”) despite the fact it remains hostile and will continue attacking you
