New Patch Adds a Grappling Hook to Fortnite

Fortnite Grapple Glove

The first patch for Chapter 3: Season 3 is adding a grappling hook to the popular battle royale, Fortnite. Throughout the last couple of seasons, Epic Games has been introducing more and more ways to get around the map quicker and more efficiently. The new grappling hook, which is called a Grapple Glove, is the newest addition to the game which allows gamers to get around the map even faster. A grapple hook is seen in a few other battle royales which can be called a direct competitor to Fortnite. Thus, the inclusion is quite decisive on Epic Games’ part.

How Does the New Grapple Hook in Fortnite Work?

The new Grapple Glove is interesting. The game allows players to swing only from hard surfaces like buildings, props, or cliffs. The mechanism is much like Spider-Man web-swinging that was introduced into the game alongside Chapter 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The feature has been long removed from the game, and the new grapple glove softly brings it back.

Much like the spider-man web swings, players gain speed with every swing until the third swing. The third swing brings players at their maximum speed, and they continue with it throughout the grappling session. If a player misses a shot, he lands on the ground and has a short amount of time to get back to grappling by shooting the hook. But, if the player fails to come back to grappling, their speed will be reset. After the window ends, players will have to wait for a while as the hook goes for a cooldown. Once the cooldown period has ended, players can take the grapple glove back to action.

Alongside new mechanics like sprinting, sliding, Baller vehicles, and abilities to ride cars, trucks, and wildlife, Fortnite is increasing the number of options available to travel across the map. Recently, the game added a Zero Build mode, which is the classic Fortnite experience but without the building elements that set the game apart. Thus, more options to travel across the map are necessary to make gameplay in the Zero Build mode feel competitive.
