Cyberpunk could’ve been Looked Like This

Concept Art by Raphael Lacoste

The latest tweet from the Ubisoft art director Raphael Lacoste showcases some stunning concept art he did 10 years ago. “Concept Art I did 10 years ago for a canned Cyberthing project 🙂“, he noted. The visuals are out of this world which at least some of us wished how Cyberpunk should’ve been looked like. A great missed opportunity, we might think, while wandering around the “exaggerated ” night city in the buggy game.

He shared four pictures of a scrapped Ubisoft game that he was working on almost a decade ago. The first picture displays the awesomeness of a gloomy, dark-looking atmosphere, in which the huge skyscrapers stand tall. The second picture shows the concept art of a much modern-ish building in the presence of heavenly scenery in the background. The third and fourth pictures are how we really wished the night-city should’ve been like. A much acceptable, life-like prediction of how 2077 would most probably look like in reality.

From a company like Ubisoft, well-known for creating huge open-worlds, we can soon expect such a stunning game. Hopefully, with fewer bugs that make the game at least playable. The replies to the Tweet proclaim how bad the gamers want such a game.

In defense of the Cyberpunk. It would’ve been a different kind of story that lasted for decades if they really took their time instead of rushing it for the fans. The quote, “Out when it’s ready” really backfired at them. As we have all witnessed in recent days, several or most of the gamers are asking for refunds especially those who use older consoles where the game seems to be almost unplayable.

The PC version, even though there are still random crashes and vehicles floating around for no reason, isn’t as bad as the console version from what we can speculate based on user reviews. Hopefully, they won’t crush the dreams of a 13-year old who now turned 20 waiting for the game.
