Warzone Reduces Player Count With Season 3 Reloaded Update

Running in Call of Duty Warzone

Fans were extremely excited for the Season 3 Reloaded update, which rolled out yesterday. The update was supposed to introduce several new elements to the game, along with some exciting ones. The list was long and included new skins, weapons, maps, and a transit system to get around the map of Caldera quickly. Recent months were not looking particularly good for the battle royale title as the Caldera map was being ridiculed. Technical issues like graphics glitches inflicted the experience and the gameplay balance was destroyed.

The new update was supposed to bring various quality-of-life updates to the game to fix these issues and revoke interest in it yet again. Warzone is always known as a title that always over-delivers. While PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds set the success mantra of 100 players in a game, Call of Duty pushed the number to 150. We have also seen 200 player lobbies in the past. However, Raven, the studio that quality checks and maintains Warzone, reduced the player count to 140 last year. Lobby shrinks are back again with Season 3 Reloaded. This time, Raven is taking away twice the number of players from the game than last time.

The new lobby will peak out at 120 players. Battle Royale Solo, Duo, and Quad modes will feature this change. Raven has reported that the change will be permanent for the remainder of Season 3. The decision will be re-evaluated at the beginning of Season 4 after the studio analyzes the way the gameplay is affected by a smaller lobby. Season 3 Reloaded has made the game easier. It now gives players several chances to come back to the match. This means that players will last longer in-game.

With all that in mind, to prevent flooding the match with players mid-game, Raven has reduced the player cap. This will make for a smooth transition from the initial stages of a match to mid-game and beyond. Since Raven is introducing mechanics to make players last longer in Warzone, we can assume they are working on player feedback. A lot of gamers have reported that they die very early in the game, without getting any idea of what was going on in the match. Thus, we can almost prove the reduced player count will make Warzone a better game.
