Dontnod’s New Name is “Don’t Nod”

Don't Nod

Dontnod Entertainment, the studio behind Tell Me Why, Life is Strange, and Vampyr, is changing its name to a more conventional two-word utterance. The studio is currently celebrating its 14th anniversary with a slightly revamped name, logo, and a month-long Tell Me Why giveaway. The company is taking up a new visual appearance for the first time. Until this day, the Dontnod logo was their full name in a stylized font. Along with these updates, the studio also has come up with a new website.

The Change is Weird

Dontnod’s name change is a bit strange. The new name contains the same characters as the old one, but with extra space and an apostrophe. This resonates with Don’t Nod’s theme for this change: a “new visual identity.” The studio says that the apostrophe and the space were introduced to “truly embrace the meaning of Don’t Nod”. The two words in their new name are suggestive of their “non-conventional” approach to games that we are familiar with.

Their new logo is quite interesting too. It may look simple and minimalist at the first glance. But, if you take a closer look, you will notice that the D is shattered, and a part of the letter ‘N’ is peeking out from it. According to the French development studio, this new name signifies that they “are not afraid to break the mold.” The company points out that this change was made to link their deep and heart-touching stories with their existence as a company.

Along with these changes in their appearance, the studio is giving away one of their most popular games, Tell Me Why, for free. This giveaway is in line with Pride Month and the game’s portrayal of concerns regarding the LGBT community. Thus, we are unsure whether we should take this giveaway as an anniversary celebration. Don’t Nod Entertainment is one of those studios that seldom disappoint with their titles. This fall, they are coming up with Gerda: A Flame in Winter. After the company’s commitment to compelling storylines with this subtle logo and name change, we can expect another solid story from the upcoming title.
