Since the beginning of PC gaming, gamers played a lot of singleplayer games, but when the internet started to gain its popularity, the multiplayer games quickly emerged. Without online games, gaming would probably be fifty percent less fun since these games are playing a crucial role. When there are online games, there is special kind of online games called LAN games. LAN games are here to allow us, gamers, to easily create a party for our friend or friends and invite them, so we can play together and have fun. Isn’t that great? If so, the list of 20 Best LAN Games for PC is below.
1. Left 4 Dead 2
I know that Left 4 Dead 2 isn’t your new shiny game, but I’m sure this game can kick the asses of the vast majority of new games. The graphics aren’t top notch, but the gameplay is very fun, polished and addicting, albeit repetitive. Left 4 Dead 2 is a zombie game in which you’ll gather your crew of four persons (including you) and go on an epic journey as you mash, bash and shoot your way through the hordes of zombies. Don’t you dare tell me that this is a boring game, don’t you simply dare! Left 4 Dead 2 is very cheap, yet offers an amazing bang for your buck, so go grab it now!
How about two Valve games in a row? CSGO is another Valve game and it’s an amazing reboot of the critically acclaimed Counter-Strike 1.6, which is still being played today. I can’t express with my words how big is the mark that this game left on a whole shooting genre. Back in the day, CS 1.6 was the most popular online shooter and when CSGO released, it quickly took the throne from its father. Nevertheless, CSGO brings some advanced graphics, tactical gameplay, tons of weapons and realistic shooting at its finest. After all, you can get this game for a couple of bucks on a Christmas sale.
3. SWAT 4
SWAT 4 is another old game, packing a serious punch when it comes to difficulty and realism. You can pretty much guess what it’s about only by reading its name. SWAT stands for Special Weapons and Tactics and you are a member of this deadly special police team. Usually, this squad consists of four men who bust their nuts in order to bring the justice to the world. This game is hard, I must admit, and if you like a challenge when it comes to gaming, SWAT 4 is simply the perfect game. Throw in a friend or two and you’ll get a pretty nice gaming party based on co-op campaign.
4. Portal 2
Portal 2 is another Valve game which promises a lot and delivers even more than it promises! I’m not joking, though. If you didn’t know, you can play Portal 2 in co-op mode, and it’s bloody fun and delicious like your mother’s lunch after school. Portal 2 is a puzzle game which combines both FPS elements and platformer sections. You’ll get a hold of a portal gun that can shoot blue and orange portals used for transcending the levels. It’s like it isn’t enough challenge for a single person, so they put a co-op mode! Well, bring it on, Valve!
5. ARMA 3
ARMA 3 is a hyper-realistic military simulation game that will show you how a shooter game is really done. It’s not your typical Call of Duty game where you’ll grab your (futuristic) gun, start jumping and flying over the map and give headshots like a Santa giving presents in the Christmas. Instead, this game will test your patience by utilizing a slow-paced gameplay stretching across the two big islands- Altis and Stratis. You can enjoy both co-op campaign (which is a nerve-wracking experience) or a real multiplayer mode with your friends. Either way, ARMA 3 is probably the hardest shooter I’ve ever played!
6. Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is one of the most popular free games on Steam and guess what? It doesn’t require any kind of microtransactions and bullshit to be played and mastered. Instead, you can earn everything you love and want by simply playing the goddamn game and killing your foes in the intense online battles. It’s fast-paced shooter unlike ARMA 3, but the challenge is real. Invite some of your friends, organize a party and enjoy this addicting experience.
7. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
Rainbow Six: Siege’s launch was poor and this game was destined to fail miserably. But, wait, isn’t this one of the best online shooters on the planet? Well, if I’m informed well, Rainbow Six: Siege is being enjoyed by a vast majority of gamers and it simply kicks ass! What makes this game special is the intense combat set in tight corridors, houses and generally, an environment which will test your reflexes. Forget about big islands and focus on going head-to-head against your opponents. If this game doesn’t challenge you, then ARMA 3 will, for sure!
8. Rocket League
There’s nothing better than drinking beer with your mates and watch a great football game on your TV. But, what if I told you that you can combine two man’s things like cars and football? Oh, yeah, you can play Rocket League with your friends and enjoy a unique football experience. Using your cars to kick a ball was never fun like this, and if we think better, is there any similar games to Rocket League? Hmph, I don’t think so, folks! So, grab your controller, buy Rocket League and organize a fun LAN game for you and your friends.
Minecraft is a great game for kids, but also for adults. It’s a survival game, actually, one of the best survival games ever! The point of this game is to survive and fight against the other players, so we have PvE and PvP modes. In PvE, you can use your survival skills to survive in a procedurally generated world, wherein PvP, you’ll connect to a server and start playing with the other players. The easiest way to recognize Minecraft is its dated graphics, but throw in a couple of graphics mods and you can make it beautiful, even more than your first crush!
PUBG took the gaming community by storm and quickly became the most popular battle royale game. So, what the hell is this game about? Everybody’s going crazy with PUBG, especially the streamers which, by the way, made the game popular. PUBG is a survival game that lands you on an island with dozens of other players without any resources or weapons. Your task is simple- be the last man standing and be the ultimate winner. Be sure to have a proper PC to play it since optimization isn’t great at all, even though the game is released almost three months ago.
11. Battlefield 4
Battlefield 1 was released in 2016 and… oh, wait, isn’t it the time for Battlefield 4? Yeah, I think so. Battlefield 4 is released just before Battlefield Hardline (a not-that-great game) and it’s a bloody delicious piece of a game. The reason for this is the versatile multiplayer that allows for playing across the large-scale maps with tons of other players. On top of that, Frostbite engine allows for some pretty nasty destructions, which will make you feel like Rambo on a killing spree. Be sure to enjoy the shit out of this game. It’s so addicting that you’ll want it more and more.
12. Quake 4
Back in the 2000s, Quake 4 was the real deal. In fact, I bet that most of the modern players couldn’t stand a chance against the professional Quake 4 players! This game left quite a mark on the modern FPS games, introducing a fast-paced gameplay, great graphics for the time and lots of possibilities for online play. This was the game we would usually play in the PC lounges and I would die a lot. This game needs serious practice to be mastered and if you aren’t hardcore enough, just stay clear of it and go play your kids’ games!
13. Garry’s Mod
Garry’s Mod isn’t exactly a game, or is it? Well, that’s a question I’m gonna leave for you to answer. However, Garry’s Mod has been for us for quite some time, so if you want a game that can make you entertained and laugh until you pee or puke, grab this one. And what about playing with your friend? You can do that too! I won’t spoil anything for you but just look at the picture above. Isn’t it hilarious?
14. Payday 2
When the Payday comes, it’s always great. You can spend your salary for the things you like and buy something new for you. However, Payday 2 is going to earn you a salary in a little different, uncommon and illegal way. Are you guys ready? Payday 2 is an epic heist game in which you organize your party and use some cool gadgets to pierce through the bank’s, disco’s and various object’s defense in order to steal some sweet cash. Of course, this ain’t gonna be easy, but I bet your friends can save you!
15. GTA V
How come you haven’t played GTA V? Of course, I’m joking, as this game is surely played by many gamers and it’s one of the most important games of all time! GTA V is here to give you an open world and let you do anything you want. Do you want to go with your gang and kill people around? You can do that. Or Drive your niggas in your super-fast car, perhaps? You can do that too! GTA V is all you want from a great online game and you simply can’t get enough of it.
16. World of Tanks
World of Tanks is all about tanks, tanks and… well, tanks. Thanks to the tanks we can now use the tanks thanks to this amazing game called World of Tanks. I know my wordplay isn’t extraordinary, but this game surely is! World of Tanks is an online game in which you can use LAN to connect with your friends and create your own Ghost Division to rule the world at war. Get ready for some epic battles and good luck- you’re going to need it!
17. Spellforce 3
Spellforce 3 was released a few months ago and if you’re wondering what this game is, it’s an amazing strategy with RPG elements. Being a role-playing game, Spellforce 3 will let you upgrade your characters, customize your weapons and powers and build encampments in order to train and produce more quality soldiers. I’m quite surprised at how good this game is, especially because I’m not a huge fan of strategy games. Nevertheless, there is a LAN mode, so if you want, give it a go.
18. Don’t Starve Together
Starving is very bad for our bodies and minds, but so is overeating. However, if we find a right balance between these two ends, that would be amazing. I can speak about nutrition for years, but I can do the same for Don’t Starve Together. Don’t Starve Together is an amazing co-op game that lets you survive with your friend and maybe live to fight another day. The graphics aren’t exactly the prettiest, but what more to expect from an indie game?
19. ARK: Survival Evolved
ARK: Survival Evolved is an open-world game which has been in a Beta phase for way too long. However, upon its release, I was pleasantly surprised that it’s a “finished” product. Still, ARK: Survival Evolved has some minor problems regarding optimization, but it’s a damn fine dinosaur game. If you want a real survival challenge, grab your friend, organize a LAN game and show them who’s the boss!
20. APB Reloaded
APB Reloaded is for those without money to buy GTA V. However, it’s still not in the same league as GTA V, but it’s pretty close since it’s a free game. With the possibility to play with your friends and do almost everything you can in a typical GTA game, APB Reloaded offers tons of fun for you and your friends. There aren’t unnecessary microtransactions and definitely no bullshit. It’s a straightforward approach that will leave nothing to be desired.
