Fortnite is known for its massive collaborations with leading icons in pop culture, Hollywood, and even other video game IPs. We have seen several characters from big series ranging from the Tomb Raider to the Matrix in the game. The best part about Fortnite’s implementation is that any player can buy these characters in the form of skins and use them in all their matches. Among all the IPs (Intellectual Properties) Fortnite is collaborating with, Star Wars has been a big one. The series is massively popular around the globe, and Epic Games has worked closely with the former’s owners.
We have seen a full season in the last chapter being based around it. In 2021, Epic introduced the Boba Fett skin to Fortnite. Boba Fett is a Star Wars character. Fast-forward to today, the game is adding the Obi-Wan Kenobi skin. For those who have been living under the rock, Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Star Wars character too. He has been spotted in several movies, and a miniseries surrounding the character will hit Disney+ pretty soon. He was initially introduced in the first movie trilogy. Not only that, but he was mainly a supporting character. In the following prequel trilogy, we saw a younger version of the character as a deuteragonist.
The game teased the introduction of General Kenobi a couple of weeks ago. With the upcoming miniseries on the character, this collaboration between Star Wars and Epic Games can serve the mutual interest. This is evident because the Fortnite Kenobi skin is based on the character’s looks from the period of the upcoming TV show. The events of the miniseries will take place right after those of the prequel trilogy.
On May 22’s Obi-Wan Kenobi cup, players can earn this skin free of cost. The rules state that all qualifying players should take part in a few select sets of Fortnite matches during the event. Players will be rewarded points based on their performance in these matches, with the Crown winner securing the most. At the end of the event, the top names will make it to a leaderboard. Depending on the positions on this leaderboard, the Obi-Wan Kenobi skin will be given away.
For those that miss this competition, the skin will be made available in the Fortnite Items Shop starting on May 26th. The Disney+ show premieres on May 27th.
