AMD introduced the Ryzen 5000 series in October 2020. It was based on Zen 3 architecture, and it ruled Intel out from taking a piece of the performance cake. AMD is known for its System-on-chips (SOCs), which packs both a CPU and a GPU in a single chip. And, the Zen 3 APUs came around in August 2021. Two APUs were launched. These included the mainstream APU Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon 7 graphics, and the performance APU Ryzen 5 5700G. The 5600G is based on AMD’s Zen 3 architecture, and it packs 6 Cezanne cores with hyperthreading. Hyperthreading is a technology by which a core is broken down into two virtual cores, and is treated as two physical operating cores by the Operating System (OS). This means we get a total of 12 threads in the 5600G. The core clock is 3.9 GHz, which is 200 MHz higher than the Ryzen 5 5600X. However, it supports a maximum of 64GB of DDR4 at 3200 MHz. Although that will be fine for day-to-day usage, it is a bit low when you go by the numbers. Also, the Ryzen 5 5600G can stock PBO up to 4.4 GHz, which is significantly lower than the max turbo of the Ryzen 5 5600X.

The Thermal Power Design (TDP) of the 5600G is 65W. That is the same as its performance counterpart, the 5700G, the Ryzen 7 5800, and the Ryzen 9 5900. It is based on the AM4 socket, and probably is one of the last processors to be released on this platform. It is based on the same 7nm FinFet process from TSMC as other 5000 series processors. However, with AMD pioneering PCIe 4.0 ports on their motherboards for the first time in a very long while, it is a bit underwhelming to see that the 5600G is stuck up with PCIe 3.0.

And, like almost every other AMD processor released these days, it is unlocked. The Ryzen 5 5600G has turned out to be an overclocking maniac. The average overclocks on coolers using air as a coolant is 4493 MHz. That is impressive for having a delta over the stock of almost 600 MHz. The average overclocks on coolers using air as a coolant is 4497 MHz, which again is an impressive number. Cascade and liquid nitrogen (LN2) numbers are a lot better because of their potential as a coolant. The average overclocks on cascade coolers is 5065 MHz. If you call that aggressive, you will be blown away by the average numbers achieved while using Liquid Nitrogen as a coolant. It is a staggering 5404 MHz which is a 1504 MHz over the stock core clock! Also, the only numbers published by HWBot are average overclocks. I am pretty sure the highest achieved frequencies are way above 5500 MHz.

Memory overclock numbers also seem promising. The highest numbers achieved are 2711.9 MHz on SDRAM. That is over 1100 MHz higher than the rated memory frequencies at stock clock speeds.

AMD is known for making the very best APU solutions in the market. The Ryzen 5 5600G packs a 7-core Radeon graphics processor which is capable of clock speeds up to 1900 MHz. The Radeon 7 is an extremely powerful graphics solution for an APU. It can play every modern AAA title at 1600×900 resolution using the lowest settings. The numbers are almost equal to those hit by a Radeon RX 550 2 GB or a GeForce GT 1030 2 GB. The video game benchmarks amaze the enthusiast community, and APU performances hit unheard of numbers with the Ryzen 5 5600G and the Ryzen 7 5700G.

Average performance differs from somewhere between 3 to 5% as compared to the Ryzen 5 5600X. That is fine considering the 40$ price difference. While the 5600X debuted at $299, the 5600G is available at $259.

I wouldn’t have had recommended the 5600G to someone who is out there looking for raw performance if the situations were normal. If you can spend $259, you obviously can spend $40 more and get the 5600X which comes with its own set of great features. But, considering the current semiconductor shortage, scalping of both the 5600X and graphics cards, the 5600G seems to be a sweet deal. It packs a graphics processor capable enough, and the Instructions Per Clock (IPC) is respectable. However, there is no denying the fact that AMD nailed it for an APU. The 5600G is the best deal for one who wants a high-performance media consumption or word processing computer.

    A Great Buy

One of the best processors for gaming that is available at a pretty good price. I am not a huge AMD fan, hence, it is the first time I tried one. As the pricing seemed pretty decent compared to the Intel processors, decided to give it a go. Boy was I right. If you are into "Budget gaming" specifically and doesn't want to max out every single game out there, definitely a great option to go for.

    Affordable Processor

AMD Ryzen 5 5600G may not be considered as a high-end processor that can be compared to the best out there. There are still some great processors apart from this one. However, what makes the 5600G special is the value for money. For budget gamers who are not looking for a very cheap alternative but still want to consider a medium-priced CPU, this one would be one of the best choices. I really recommend it as long as you can also afford a pretty decent graphics card. You will be able to run almost any games released so far.

    Best AMD Processor

For me personally, this is the best processor AMD has every produced (considering the price to the quality). I am using it to play FIFA 22 currently. Even at the highest settings, the game runs smooth as butter. No lags, no issues, nothing problematic. When combined with the right graphics card, the processor can perform pretty great considering that it is only around $250. I bought it on an offer, so the price was even cheaper. Really like it so far.
