How to Use Parachute in GTA 5

How to Use GTA V Parachute

Parachute in GTA 5 has another purpose besides preventing death when falling from hundreds of feet. We’re referring to 13 parachute jumps that are required to reach a 100% complete game. The mission progress is shared, so feel free to change characters in GTA 5 at will. Other than that, nothing has changed. You still have to imitate real life and jump from a plane or a helicopter. There is a possibility of using a Thruster, but that’s reserved for Grand Theft Auto: Online. If Jetpack wasn’t missing (it was prominent in GTA San Andreas), that’d be an option too. With that said, let’s get into how to use a parachute in GTA 5.

1. Obtain a parachute in GTA 5

Before you can use it, you must get it. Here are 2 ways to acquire a parachute in GTA 5:

1. Buy it from the Ammu-Nation Store

This isn’t possible right away. It requires you to have unlocked Trevor and completed a mission named “Minor Turbulence“. Also, you can purchase a reserve parachute at Ammu-Nation, and pick a completely different color and design.

2. Use a cheat code to spawn it

To receive a parachute in GTA 5, enter the following cheat codes:

PC

Press the “~“ key on your keyboard, type “SKYDIVE“, and press “Enter.“

PlayStation

Press buttons on the controller in this order: ←,→, L1, L2, R1, R2, R2, ←, ←, →, L1

Xbox

Press buttons on the controller in this sequence: ←,→, LB, LT, RB, RT, RT, ←, ←, →, LB

In-game call.

Dial 1-999-759-3483.

2. Check if you can use a parachute in GTA 5

To do so, bring up the weapon inventory wheel by pressing:

  • “TAB“ on PC.
  • “L1“ button on PlayStation.
  • “LB“ button on Xbox.

The parachute will be displayed in the bottom right corner.

3. Use parachute in GTA 5

After jumping from a sufficient height, do this to open a parachute in GTA 5 based on platform you’re on:

PC

To use a parachute on PC, press the “F“ button on your keyboard.

PlayStation

To use a parachute on PlayStation, press the “X“ button on your controller.

Xbox

Using a parachute on Xbox requires you to press the “A“ button on your controller.

4. Make falling more useful or fun (Optional)

While you’re falling with a parachute in GTA 5, you can do these 4 things:

1. Enable parachute smoke trail

At any point after opening the parachute, pressing the same keys again enables a smoke trail.

2. Use parachute in GTA 5 when jumping from a bike

Should you find a cliff high enough, you can deploy a parachute while on a bike that’s falling in the air. Keep in mind that it won’t be carried – you will be ejected from it.

3. Use weapons

While falling, you can use single-handed weapons such as Handguns and Submachine Guns.

4. Try to stay out of sight

Gunfire and nearby explosions affect the parachute. In the best-case scenario, you’ll only find it harder to maneuver. In the worst, gunshots will rip the parachute apart, plunging you towards the ground.

5. How to land with a parachute safely

Use all arrow buttons/keys (←, ↑, ↓, →) to steer the parachute. On PC, you can use “Q“ and “E“ to make sharp turns. When you start approaching land, release the hold of the “↑“ key/button because you’ll face-plant and get severely injured or die. Do this instead:

  • PC. Hold “Shift“ on your keyboard.
  • PlayStation. Hold “L1“ and “R1“ buttons together.
  • Xbox. Hold “LB“ and “RB“ buttons together.
